WE WERE APPROACHED IN 2012 BY A FEDERAL AGENCY BOMB TECH AND ASKED TO DEVELOP A COMMS LINK FOR HIS TEAM'S MED ENG 9 BOMB SUITS. OUR PRODUCTION MANAGER, A FORMER SWAT TEAM COMMANDER AND BOMB TECH, CONTACTED A LOCAL STATE BOMB TECH WHO, IN TURN, LOANED HIM ONE OF THE TEAM'S MED ENG SUITS. THE RESULTING DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT PROJECT BROUGHT FORTH THE ATLANTIC SIGNAL EOD COMMS KIT FOR MED ENG 8 AND 9 BOMB SUITS. THE KIT INCLUDES A CABLED PTT LINK THAT MATES TO THE UNTERMINATED COMMS LINK CABLE LOCATED ON THE RIGHT ARM OF THE MED ENG SUIT. ONCE CONNECTED THE CABLE RUNS DOWN THE ARM TO A RECTANGULAR PTT ASSEMBLY WITH SHROUDED BUTTON LOCATED ON THE TOP OF THE HOUSING. THE BOTTOM OF THE ASSEMBLY FEATURES VELCRO HOOK MATERIAL DESIGNED TO MATE WITH IT'S LOOP COUNTERPART SEWN ONTO THE LEFT WRIST PORTION OF EACH MED ENG SUIT. ALSO EXITING THE PTT ASSEMBLY IS THE CABLE AND CONNECTOR FOR YOUR PORTABLE RADIO. ADDITIONALLY INCLUDED WITH EACH KIT IS A NOISE CANCELING BOOM MICROPHONE DESIGNED TO PLUG INTO THE MICROPHONE FEMALE JACK ASSEMBLY INSIDE THE MED ENG HELMET. THE MICROPHONE ASSEMBLY ALSO INCLUDES A VELCRO MOUNTING PLATFORM THAT ALLOWS YOU TO SEMI-PERMANENTLY MOUNT THE BOOM ARM AND MICROPHONE ELEMENT INSIDE THE HELMET -- POSITIONING THE MICROPHONE ELEMENT DIRECTLY IN FROM OF THE OPERATOR'S MOUTH. THE MED ENG 8 SUIT REQUIRES A BOOM MIC WHILE THE 9 SERIES HAS A MICROPHONE BUILT INSIDE THE HELMET NEAR THE LEFT EAR. HOWEVER, WE HAVE FOUND THE BOOM MIC SOLUTION TO BE MUCH MORE EFFECTIVE AND INCLUDE IT FOR BOTH MODELS OF SUITS.
